News from Maurice Carroll, charity 'pedlathon'

Osteoarthritis Pedlathon on track for September.

The race circuit 'pedlathon' is on schedule for a start at Castle Combe on 12th September, and if it stays on track, will continue rolling along Britain's roads for seven days.

The event is to help raise funds for arthritis 'Noddy Appeal' and the brains – and legs – behind it belong to former Grand Prix bike racer, Maurice Carroll. Said Maurice "Just keep your eyes open for an Arthritis research Campaign vehicle driving behind an out of breath 60 year old who will have to concentrate hard on riding on the left hand side of the road and getting used to the volume of traffic".

Maurice now lives in rural France where enthusiasm for cycle racing and near empty roads drew him to the sport to help reduce the debilitating effects of arthritis.

Earlier this year, the event appeared to be de-railed when main sponsor MG Rover collapsed. But thanks to the support of the Arthritis Research Campaign and a host of sponsors including hotels around the UK and Hoverspeed, it is back on track.

Added Maurice “I am indebted to the hoteliers who have agreed  to accommodate me and my support car driver for free plus all our sponsors for their unqualified support in raising funds for a disease that affects one in eight people."

Details of the event can be found on its web site, www.winerider.com.
